DAWES, Frederic C - This man was my grandfather, but I know very little about him. He was a Captain in the Royal Army Pay Corps, and was stationed in Perth, Scotland, during the 1920s. He was desperate to marry my grandmother, Rebecca Howie Laird Robbie, but as she had been unwittingly married to a bigamist, and already had a child, now illegitimate because of the bigamy, she was very vulnerable and did not want to leave the security of the family. Fred and Rebecca produced my mother, Freda Dawes Robbie, but still Rebecca would not marry Fred. Finally, in around 1929, he gave her an ultimatum that if she did not marry him, he would make a settlement on Freda, and would leave Perth, never to return. I believe he then went to Cairo and know nothing further about him. I would estimate he would have been born around 1885. Rebecca died in 1935, aged only 42, and unfortunately I have no photographs of either of them. I would be grateful for any information anyone may have about Fred.
