Gggrandfather, Thomas Yates, was Union civil war veteran. Served in Co E, 31st Il Inf. Born appx 1845. Buried in Bridges Cemetery, Johnson Co, IL. Older VA headstone has rank, name, unit; no dates. Was awarded 17th Army Corps Gold Medal of Honor for actions in Battle of Atlanta on 22 Jul 1864. Civil War Pension terminated by death eff 4 Oct 1896. Wife Mary. Seeking any available information, particularly regarding verifying date of death.
