I am searching for information on Joseph W. R. Stambaugh who was a captain in the Civil War. He was born 1832 in Franklin County, PA, and died Sept. 19, 1892, in Sterling. My great-grandfather's name was David J. Stumbaugh and he was also born in Franklin County, PA, on Mar. 17, 1847, near Harrisburg, Pa. They both lived in the same area in late 1881-1896 in Whiteside County. I am seeking the name of the parents of Capt. Joseph W. R. Stambaugh to see if they might be brothers. David's parents were William and Sarah I. Kessner Stumbaugh. David was married to Elizabeth Whistler born April 18, 1856, in Albany, IL.
