I am fairly new to genealogical research and have a question for anyone who is willing to help. I am searching for information on my Patterson family. I found the family on the 1880 US Federal Census in Itawamba county, Mississippi. The family is listed as: Charley Patterson, wife is Eliza and 2 sons (James and William) and 2 daughters (Mary and Dora). William is my grandfather. This all fits with my other information that I have for the family. My problem: I have a copy of William's death certificate which states that his mother was Josephine Johnson. How can I resolve this issue of who William's mother really was? I have been told by my father that Charley was married multiple times but no one knows for sure how many times. Is it logical to think that Josephine Johnson was Charley's last wife and Eliza was his first? Does anyone have an explanation for this? Thank you in advance! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
