Searching for relatives of Juho Edvard Lindstrom, born at Alavo, (Alavus), Finland, September 21, 1873, married to Lydia Nieminen, born Alavo, August 30, 1875; on June 24, 1897 at Pieksamaki, Finland. Two of their children were born in Hillila (Hollola?) or Alavo, Finland: Hjordis Angelica on Dec. 8, 1900 and Mildred Evangeline, March 21, 1902.Two more children were born in the United States: Levi Robert, July 29, 1906 and Elsie Margaret born 1907. Juho worked for K. Oberg, Urlagde, in Helsinki (86 Alexandersgatan 36, Helsingfors) from November 12, 1896 to March 15, 1898 and received his journeyman’s certificate in the watchmakers trade from the Manufacturers Union of Lahti, Finland in the Village of Lahti on July 11, 1896, signed by J. Johanston; O. Lefrin, Olderman; and G.E. Tudelin (spellings may be different). Juho, also known as Johan and John, traveled from Hango (Hanko) to the United States on the ship Oceanic which departed from Liverpool, England, arriving in the United States May 28, 1903. Lydia Lindstrom traveled with her two young children on the Cedric, arriving at Ellis Island in New York City on November 4, 1904. In the United States, Juho went by the name of John Edward Lind and the family name was Lind. John’s father was a tailor. Lydia’s father was a shoemaker. Lydia left 4 or 5 sisters and a brother, Nurmi Nieminen in Finland. One document shows John being born in Hango (Hanko), but that is likely just his port of departure from Finland rather than a birthplace. Lydia Nieminen’s father had a photographic portrait taken by Ovesen, Fabiansgatan 27, in Helsingfors, likely about 1895. Hjordis Lind married Harry Edward Pratt about 1929 in Illinois or Indiana. Mildred E. Lind married Dustin Westfall in South Bend, Indiana in 1917. Lydia Lind maintained a correspondence with her Finnish relatives until she lost track of them during World War II. Perhaps a relative of Dustin Westfall or Harry Pratt might know of the Finnish relatives. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
