Standishes on Porters Bluff by Deborha Cook I am researching for any info linked to my great-grandfather Samuel Standish who lived and died (1909)on Porters Bluff, in Jackson County. I have found no record of death. I would like to spend my fourth of July vacation in the area researching. Coming from Kansas City, and being a long journey, does anyone know what places would be open that I might be able to research records. We are a direct descendent lineage to Captain Miles Standish. I have put together a large family book, and have hit a dead end with my great uncle Myles Standish (Samuel's son)who died September, 1934. He had a son Allan who was listed on his death certificate as undertaker, along with Mr George Davis, Long Island. Allan had a sister Margaret (who I know married a dairy farmer named Koontz) from old family letters. I also have letters pertaining to a fire on Porters Bluff (at the home of Henry Porter) where men were hung to death for their arsen. Samuels sister Susan Z Standish lived there also. I would feel blessed if anyone could help with any information. Thank you, Deborah Cook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
