I have traced my Mckinstry name back as far as Rodger and "Mary Wilson" Mckinstry, near Edinburgh, Scotland. leaving for Ireland in 1669 do to religious pursecution. He was followed in his line by several ministers, the first beinf JOHN who arrived in Boston in 1820 from Ireland. He married a Elizabeth Fairfield, and became the first minister in Ellington, con., where he's buried. I have read in an old letter written by an Edwin Mckinstry, dated 1939, that the family motto was "Luceo on Uro" shine but not burn. Upon further research I've discovered that this is the clan Mackenzie's motto. Is Mckinstry derived from this name? If so when and where and why? I've looked everywhere can anyone help? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
