Hi: I have recently come in posession of two beautiful portraits....hand-painted photographs which I would guess are from the 1880's.The pictures are of (I assume) a couple, I would guess in their late 60's or early 70's. They obviously were people of means, because they were able to afford the portraits and the very expensive frames that the pictures were in. On the back of each of the pictures is the name "Flewelling". The pictures came from a home in Eldon (Belfast area) on PEI. That name is not one that is known here in the Belfast/Eldon area, but there may have been relatives from NB or the south shore of Nova Scotia where the name is more common. I noticed on one web site that the Griffin and Flewellings were inter-marrried. A man by the name of Marty (Martin) Griffin lived in Edlon/Belfast and he never married, which could explain why these beautiful portraits might not have someone to claim them. Of course, the Flewelling's were also part of the Llewellyn clan, and there are many Llewellyn's living close-by in Montague. I would love to be able to present these two stunning portraits to people who have a connection to them. The photos were given to me by a friend who bought them at an auction house to have the frames. He contacted me because he couldn't bear to throw away the photos and he knew I had an interest in history and genealogy and becasue I am from the Belfast/Eldon area. Please contact me to get a fuller description of the photos.....which by the way are very distinctive. The male, in particular, despite his opbvious age, has a very full hairline....combed straight back....and a full beard. (I would think this is a genetic trait that might survive generations). The woman looks older than him, which might suggest that she had a number of children. Thanks for your interest. Alan Buchanan | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
