I am seeking information about John Smith (b.1-9-1796 PA - d. 10-9-1848 ? Co KY) came to KY from PA the date is not known. He met and married Mahala Virgin (b. 2-19-1800 KY- d. 3-22-1856 KY) of Thomas Virgin and Eleanor Davis parentage. John is buried in the Barrett Creek Cemetery (old Plummer) in Carter Co. and Mahala is buried in the Dupuy-Grey-Greenslate Cemetery in Greenup Co. Her tombstone is still there and in great shape 150 years later. She was supposed to have married a Griffith after John's death and her death was supposed to have been from typhoid. Their known children are: Joseph Madison Smith (my great grandfather), John Allen Smith and Theresa A. (Thursey) Smith. Joseph left KY for OH married (Jemina Crull), had four children; migrated to IN in 1863, remarried (Maria Margaret Cunningham) after first wife's death and had three more children one of which was my grandfather. John A. Smith married Dorcas Waring and they had six children. He outlived her by many years and is buried at Siloam KY. The story is that John killed a person in self-defense and spent time in jail.
