I'm searching for members of the BOLDEN FAMILY of Washington, DC. We are of African-American descent. My father, EARL STANLEY BOLDEN, JR. (b. 1919), was the son of EARL STANLEY BOLDEN, SR. (b. Aug. 1899) in DC. His wife's name was BEULAH STROTHER (b. 1903) of Abbeville, SC. My great-grandfather was ROBERT CARTER BOLDEN (b. March 1877 in DC). His wife was JENNIE BOLDEN (b. 1878 in DC). They also had a daughter named LOUISE, who married a THOMAS KEYES of DC. Robert Carter's father was ROBERT BOLDEN (b. 1844 in Virginia) and married to SELINA CARTER BOLDEN (b. 1848 in Virginia). Robert Carter, Robert, and Jennie are listed as "MULATTO" in the census. At one time, they all lived at 1549 4th St. NW. Robert Carter divorced Jennie around 1920 and moved in with his brother ALBERT ERVIN BOLDEN (b. 3/26/1885) at 1335 9th St. NW. Another brother, ARTHUR BOLDEN (b. 1869), lived with his family at 1515 4th St. NW. Arthur was married to LOLA and their children, as of the 1920 Census, were: BESSIE (b. 1905), ARTHUR, JR. (b. 1914), and ELIZABETH V. (b. 1916). On the STROTHER side, my grandmother BEULAH STROTHER (b. abt 1903) is from Diamond Hill, Abbeville, South Carolina. Her mother was ANNA STROTHER (b. abt. 1865). The last records that I can find on this family is the 1920 US Census for Abbeville County. There, she is listed with her children WALTER (b. 6/4/1896), BESSY LEE (b. 1904), GRANT (b. 1910), DAVID (b. 1915), THOMAS B. (b. 1917) and WILLIAM (b. 1919). After 1920, they all just seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth! You would think that, with this many family members, SOME ONE should have some descendants other than my grandmother BEULAH! My father, now 87, was estranged from both sides of his family while still a young child. He has 6 living children, 14 grandchildren, and a few great-grands (they keep coming!!) We are all interested in finding any cousins, even many times removed! We would appreciate any information that you may have to share. Thanks! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
