Query Text: |
Burke. An ancestor, Mary Burke married a British Royal Marine, James VARNEY, on 31 August 1869 at Queenstown in the Parish Church of Clonmell, in the County of Cork. At that time James was serving on the ship HMS Mersey. Mary's father is named as Michael Burke, pilot. No doubt for guiding shipping in that area. James and Mary returned to Gosport UK where they had several children. Would the marriage have been RC or C of Ireland? I know nothing of Mary Burke before her marriage but she would have been born about 1850 Any info much appreciated. Pat Ball | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
