I am English,living in England and have just discovered that my grandfather was American. He seems to have come to England between 1900 and 1905. In 1905 he joined the British army and married my grandmother in England in 1906. My father was born in 1907 and never knew his own father. We were told he had died around the time of the birth. Now I have found that he deserted from the army and arrived back in USA in 1908. My grandfather's name was HARRY LENHART and I think he was born in New York in 1880, the son of HENRY (HARRY) LENHART and SARAH JANE MARQUIS LENHART. They had other children: SARAH born 1890 New York;MARY born 1893 New York and CLARENCE born 1896 New York. My father's second name was Clarence. HENRY was born in New York c1856 and seems to have been the son of JAS. (JAMES?) LENHART and his wife ELIZA. JAMES was born in Pennsylvania c1820 and worked as a printer in New York. Can anyone help me trace the origins of this family please? If there are any other descendants who would like to contact me I would be very pleased to hear from you.
