I am trying to find relatives of my natural Grandfather. He had an affair with Ruby Agnes Ryan resulting in a pregnancy. Ruby bore a baby boy on 9/9/1909 at Sydney Women's Hospital who she named Stanley John Ryan. Ruby gave her baby away to Tom and Ellen Bancroft of St. Peters NSW and he was fostered and raised as Stanley John Bancroft who was my father. Ruby later married William T. Smith in 1911 and bore him three sons. William T. in 1912. Stanley J. in 1914 and Henry F. in 1916. At the age of 70 Stanley John Bancroft found out he had been adopted although it had never been formalised. His relatives were all aware of the adoption but it had always been a well kept family secret. They said Ruby had worked as kitchen help on a sheep property in NSW Australia. His father was a member of Tom Bancroft's shearing team. They thought his name was Browning or Bowning or he may simply have been a youth who came from the NSW town of Bowning. It seems odd that Ruby had named both her first and third sons Stanley John. Perhaps the two names were of family significance or she may have been still carrying a torch for a Stanley John Browning or Bowning. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
