My great grandfather, Matthew John Ryan, died on 20 December 1895 at Ballybroughan, Tulsk, County Roscommon. He was born about 1819 in Knackneevan, Borrisoleigh, Tipperary. He married an Englishwoman, Emily Hatt either in Ireland or England. Two children, William and Sara Louisa were born in Ireland. Matthew and Emily lived in St. Asaph, North Wales, where more children were born, Ellenor, James and Cecilia. Matthew was described as a Grocer. He had left Emily and returned to Ireland by 1871. William, born in 1857, did not live with the family in St. Asaph. However, he married Eliza Hill in England and they lived in London with their four children, the youngest of them, Herbert, being my father. I would like to know the whereabouts of William from his birth until his marriage to my grandmother. He was only two years older than his sister, Sara Louisa, so he must have been in the guardianship of someone whilst the rest of the family lived in St. Asaph, Wales. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
