I am looking for any information on my ggrandfather Sam H. Jordan who is listed in the 1880 FedCen for St. Landry, LA. He was born in LA in 1852 and was 28 yrs at time of census, wife was Martha,23 yrs, children: Henry, 7 yrs; Lauretta, 4 yrs; and James, 1 yr. He was a farmer. Census states that both parents of Sam H. and Martha were born in LA. Sam's full name was Samuel Hocadee. Wife's maiden name is unknown. Son Henry stayed in LA and is in the 1910 FedCen for Rapides Co. as Henry, 37 yrs, wife Bessie, 38 yrs, and children Lisa and Clide 12 yrs, Henry Jr. 7 yrs, Gairret or Gainet 4 yrs, Cornelia 2 yrs. He is listed in the 1910 FedCen in Callahan Co, TX. Supposedly remarried to another Martha T. and had additional children of Henry S. (Spencer?), Ollie, and Amazon. He was farming next to my grandfather, James (Wesley)and his wife Nettie Ora McNelly. I have found no records prior to the 1880 Census, have no idea of his parents' names or siblings. My father told me he was of Black Dutch heritage, whether Indian or African American I cannot say but one aunt said there was some French. He could have easily been of French-Indian parentage. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
