Query Text: |
President Thomas Jefferson had a nephew, Valentine Marks, son of TJ's sister, Anna Scott Jefferson and husband, Hastings Marks. According to a letter in the TJ papers at Monticello, VA., Valentine Marks is said to have married "a Miss Brockenbough [sic] of Port Royal." Because the Brockenbrough name is so prominent in the Port Royal, Caroline County, Va, area in the late 1700's and early 1800's, I wonder if the name written without the "r" could be an error on the part of the author (who was a descendent of TJ's, writing in 1902.) If you can help me identify the lady who married Valentine Marks, please contact me. Thanks so much. MM | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
