I am looking for information on my great grandparents who resided in Webb City Missouri. They were John C. Shields and Sarah Ellen Hess Shields. John Shields was born 29, Oct. 1842 in Mansfield, Richland Co. Ohio. He served in the Illinois reg, light artillery during the civil war and died 18, Jan. 1919 in Webb City, Mo and is buried in Carterville Cemetery. He married Sarah Ellen (she often went by Ellen) Hess on 4, Feb. 1866 in Shelby Co. Illinois. Sarah Ellen died 16, Oct. 1919 in Joplin Mo and is buried in Carterville Cemetery in Webb City. She was born on 8, Sep. 1847. They had a daughter named Harriett Matilda Shields who married Henry Payton Walden. Harriet and Henry died young and their 4 children were raised by Harriets sister Kate Shields Cannon Dunbar. The children were Georgia Walden (married to Oscar Gamblin) 2 John Payton Walden (my grandfather) 3. Edward Otis Walden (married to Olive Norman) and 4. Hazel Irene Walden (married to Calvin Hinds). I would be greatful for any information on this family. My biggest desire is to find out who the parents of Sarah Ellen Hess were and if Kate ever had children of her own. Sincerely, Susan Harker | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
