I am looking for one Mamie S. Howland, born 11 March, 1886 at Lake Pleasant, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Edinboro College, Edinboro, Erie, Pennsylvania in the early 1900's and taught school in a small town, name not known now, in Illinois. It lies about half way between Chicago and St. Louis, Missouri and is near the Mississippi River. There is no record of her found in any 1910 US Cencus. In the New Mexico Educational Directory 1913-1914, she is listed as a Principal of an Unincorporated Town and/or Village. It gives Bernalilio County, Albuquerque, Dist. No. 3 She is still listed as living in Albuquerque in the Albuquerque 1917 City Directory. She has a telephone and is listed as teacher. She goes as Mary S. r 415 W Lead av. In the 1920 US Cencus, she is listed as living in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, with her family and she is listed as a school teacher. She cannot be found in any l930 US Cencus under Mamie S. or Mary S., however, in her fathers obit she is listed as living in Chicago, Illinois. He died on 1 February, 1938. Her mother was deceased in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania on 20 September 1953, and in her obit, Mamie S. is listed as Mary and living in Chicago, Illinois. Checking records in Chicago seems to be impossible. Nothing has been found on her yet. I am interested in finding place and death for this individual, getting a copy of her obit, and possibly a picture of her tombstone. Pennsylvania in the early 1900 and taught school in a small town for 2 or 3 years in Illinois. That town, now unknown, lies perhaps about half way between Chicago and St. Louis, Missouri. It is near the Mississippi River. She cannot be found in any 1910 US Cencus. In the New Mexico Educational Directory for 1913-14, she is listed as a Principal in Bernalillo Cou mty, Albuquerque. Dist. No. 3. She can be found in the Albuquerque City Directory to at least 1917. In 1920, she was listed as living with her family in Edinboro, Erie, Pennsylvania and teaching school. She cannot be found anywhere in the 1930 US Cencus under Mamie S. or Mary S. Her father Lycurgus Howland died about 1 February 1938 in Edinboro, Erie, Pennsylvania and in his obit, she is listed as living in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother was Alice Gross Howland, who died in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania on 20 Septem`ber 1953, and Mamie is listed as Mary who at that time is listed as living in Chicago, Illinois. Nothing can be found of her from records that have been check in Chicago.
