I'm researching the family and ancestors of James Culbert and Elizabeth Park who lived in the tiny village of Balleighan near Manorcunningham in County Donegal, Ireland. They had two sons who immigrated to the Tennessee Valley in 1846 (they are well documented) and two daughters who immigrated to Philadelphia. One son, Andrew Culbert, stayed behind on the family farm, along with a sister, Catherine Culbert. Andrew and Catherine married Robert and Susan McLean (McClean) who were brother and sister in a double ceremony in Manorcunningham. Andrew had six children who lived past childhood and of those two had children themselves. His grandson, Henry Culbert, was born ca 11 Jul 1879 in Balleighan and is believed to have immigrated to Canada or the US around the turn of the century. One of Andrew's sons was named Mathew Culbert who converted to Catholism married Mary Coll and settled in Carrownasaul. They had 10 children including a Robert Culbert who immigrated to Philadelphia and married Isabella Strain, Samuel John Culbert who immigrated to Philadelphia and married Margaret Strain, Andrew and Mathew Gerald Culbert who both immigrated to the US and married Margaret O'Reilly (Margaret married Mathew after Andrew's death), Susan Culbert who married William McDonnell and is believed to have immigrated to the US, Mary Culbert who married Edward McGettigan and is believed to have immigrated to Chicago, as well as Margaret Culbert who stayed in Ireland and married John Strain Jr., Catherine Culbert who stayed in Ireland and married William Cullen, and James Culbert who later changed his name to Culbertson. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
