My Ggrandfather J. Alford Johnson b. Albany NY. Family tradition is his family were mariners... sailed to South America and started the first orange grove (or vineyard in Napa Valley) California. His son J Alfred Johnson Jr b. 1848 Napa Valley CA and had two sisters, one named Elvira, both b. California. The name "Joseph Francis" was sent from the territory of California to name G'father's first child. Luther Burbank was a neighbor of this Johnson family and someone in this family married into that noted plant family. My Grandfather Johnson came to McKinney Collin Co TX in 1871 to visit cousins. He married Nancy Martha Jane Dunkin Sherman Grayson Co TX 17 Oct 1871. Issue: Joseph Francis, James or Johnny, Sidney Andrew [My Papa] 1877-1957, Jenetta Melissa, Vestie Jane b. 9 Nov 1883... nine months to the day G'dad left for work as a brickmason (He worked on the first free public school in Texas.) and was never seen or heard from again. ...I surmise that Johnson brothers came from New York to help Texas win our independence from Mexico. I have J Alford Johnson 1936 land transactions from the Texas counties of Grayson and Galveston. Please and thank you all for any help and input. Corine Elvira
