Looking for information on Henry C Childress, who was my great grandfather. I beleive his father was Hamilton/Hampton Childress. The 1870 census of Traphill, Wilkes Co is as follows: Hampton age 58; Elizabeth, age 53; Jane, age 26; Pauline, age 26, Hiram, age 15; Betsy Ann, age 10 and Henry C, age 9. The 1860 census lists his name as Hamilton. Henry married Elizabeth M.McCrary (no record found), daughter of Acy and Celia McCrary from Rock Creek, Wilkes Co. NC. Henry and Elizabeth are found only once in the 1900 cenus in Rock Creek, Wilkes Co, NC with their two daughters, one of which was my grandmother. The two daughters can be found on the 1910 and 1920 census living in the homes of others as boarders and hired help. Florence Bessie Emaline (my grandmother) married Wm Spicer in 1914 in Surry Co. NC. She then married T.S. Jones in Unicoi Co, TN in 1925. Her sister, Celia married Wm H. Kendrick in Guilford Co. NC in 1922. No other records are found for Celia. Supossedly, Ceclia died in childbirth in Guilford Co. I am trying to verify that Hamilton was Henry's father ( there is another possiblity, Stephen Childress) and information about his death. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
