I'm lookin for the parents of my G-G-Grandfather, Lewis J. Minor (Louis J. Menard). His death records in Millbury, Massachusetts list his parents as Lewis and Julia Minor (no maiden name) both from FRANCE (not French Canada). Lewis J. was born around 1829 in Canada; he married Angeline Pariseau in 1848; fought for the 17th Infrantry Vermont in the Civil War; and died in Millbury, MA on July 29, 1895. Assuming the records are correct, I'm particularly interested in reasons for French migration in the early nineteenth century to Canada, which was under British rule by that time. For what it's worth, his daughter named one of her sons Napoleon Bonaparte Minor, and the entire family readily demonstrated a willingness to serve in the military -- Civil War and beyond. Perhaps Louis Menard served in the French military under Napoleon Bonaparte??? Was Canada a destination for alienated supporters??? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
