Query Text:

I am a Turner from Benton County, Indiana. Before my grandmother (Esther Hubertz Turner Scales) died, she told me a little about my grandfather's family. My grandfather, Rollin or Roland Turner, took off when my grandmother was pregnant with my father. He was never heard from again to my knowledge. And the following information that I have been finding is a result of the information which she provided for me. According to the 1910 US Census, my Turner family was living in Carpenter Township, Jasper County, Indiana. And I know that my father's father, Rollin or Roland Turner b. about 1904 d.?, was illegitimate, and born to Lillian Mae Turner b. 1887, daughter of John T. or F. Turner b. about 1841 in Indiana and Nancy D. Turner born in Ohio. The little information that I have has provided me with the following: My grandfather, Rollin or Roland Turner b. 1904 d.?, was born in Indiana to Lillian May Turner b. 1887 Indiana d. 1954 Indiana, father unknown according to the 1910 US Census. Lillian May Turner married a W. Zimmerman in 1918, but they had no children. By finding her marriage license and death certificate, I know that Lillian's parents were John T. or F. Turner b. about 1841 in Indiana and Nancy D. or Downs Turner born in Ohio. On the 1910 US Census, I found where the household consisted of: 1. John T. or F. Turner b. about 1841, head of household, 2. Jennie S. Turner b. about 1870, daughter, 3. Pearl E. Turner, b. about 1884, daughter, 4. Lillian M. Turner, b. 1887, daughter, and 5. Rollin J. or S. Turner, b. 1904, grandson. On the 1930 census, I found where the household consisted of only: 1. Jennie S. Turner b. about 1870, head of household, and 2. William Turner b. about 1880, brother. My grandmother, Lillian Mae Turner Zimmerman, was married and living with her husband on the 1930 census in Jasper County, Indiana. I know there was at least one other brother, but do not know his name. Does anyone know when and where Nancy D. or Downs died? Were maybe they divorced at some point in time? Was it possible that they went separate ways with the children being split up? I know that these are some far-fetched questions, but something is not right. And I had lots of trouble reading the middle initials. I'm at my wits end trying to piece this puzzle together. If anyone can provide me with any information on this family, I will be greatly appreciative.
