William J. Roberts Born: 09 JAN 1814 Waterbury*, New Haven, Connecticut, USA (headstone - Gunntown cemetery, Naugatuck, CT) Died: 07 MAY 1879 Seymour, New Haven, Connecticut, USA (Death Cert.) Married (Harriet Cook of Humphreysville): 09 SEP 1844 Middlebury, New Haven, Connecticut, USA (Middlebury Town Hall entry) * Assumed to be Waterbury if his father is Amasa Roberts. There is no Barbour entry for his birth. Harriet Cook Born: 05 FEB 1821 Middlefield*, Middlesex, Connecticut, USA (headstone) Died: 26 MAY 1903 Middlebury, New Haven, Connecticut, USA (Death Cert. *) * Parents listed were "--" Cook, father from Middlefield and Marriet Hall from "unknown". There is no Barbour entry for her birth that fits her birth date listed on her headstone. I have a hunch that William J Roberts is the son of Amasa Roberts, though I have been unsuccessful in documenting that connection. In the 1820 census, Amasa had a male child living with him that was between 0 & 10 years old. That would fit. Also, in the list of tax payers in Middlebury, William J is listed after Amasa in the ledgers at the appropriate age that he would have been paying his own taxes. As for Harriet Cook, I'm nowhere with that yet. If anyone has anything to contribute, I would really appreciate it. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
