Jack and Louisa Matthews Ozark Al - I have hit a brick wall in the search for my paternal gggrandfather in Ozark Alabama. I believe his name was Jack Matthews and likely died between 1866 - 1870. I have found my gggrandmother Louisa Matthews and several kids. They were Evander "Vandy" Matthews, Judy Bray, Chaney Merick Smith and her husband Arthur Smith, daughter Raney(probably short for something, daughter Rintha (also probably short), son Sandy Matthews and Daniel Matthews. They were closely associated with Handy Barnes but not sure of the relationship. The census also shows Louisa throughout the years after slavery with the last names of Barnes, Merrick or Merritt, and Matthews. Thanks! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
