My great grandfather was George Washington Coates, his wife was Susan McDade. His ancestors are (I believe) from England, hers are (I believe) either Cherokee or Creek Indian and Irish. He and his brother were separated when they were young after parents died. His brothers name was John. I believe he ended up in Memphis, TN. I believe Susan's mother was full blooded indian, and was part of the Trail of Tears, which would make her Cherokee. I also believe there are McDade's and Coates' I am related to buried in the McDade Cemetery in Carbon Hill, Alabama. I am interested in finding out about both sides of my family.
