I am looking for ancestors of Francis Tomlinson born in Ireland abt 1750. Family tradition gleaned from old letters has him descended from either Matthew Thomlinson of Whitby b.9/24/1617 d 11/5/1681 or Charles Thomlinson of Whitby b 9/20/1649 d 7/10/1690. The problem is I can't find where either of them had a son.Matthew had land in Ireland. He was charged with regicide in the death of King Charles I. One source talks about this affair while another talks about a father of three sons dying young and being cheated out of there inheritance which fits with Charles who appears to be Matthews nephew. The widow remarried and she could have shipped the boys to Uncle Matthews Irish estates where tradition says they were all given trades one a silversmith one a blacksmith and one a career soldier. It could all be fact or it could all be fiction or somewhere in between anyway my ancestors emigrated from county Laois in Ireland to the U.S. approx 1825. I sure would like to find some way to tie this colorful tale to my family with facts. Thanks Alan | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
