We must be cousins, connected back there somewhere! Over the past forty years I have spend untold hours trying to find our more of my personal line of Pettits, and actually have uncovered some remarkable finds including a covey of two dozen cousins on the Oregon-California border we thought were absolutely lost when my dad’s youngest brother died at sea during WWII. However, how my ancestors mysteriously turned up in Bucks County PA in the mid-1700s, however, is unknown. My speculation is they were Irish Quakers who before that had been French soldiers who fell in love with the red-headed colleens after killing their men, and stayed, until the potato famine made them look for new opportunities. But, anyway, right now I am trying to find the ancestors (and origins) of Robert Lee Pettit, b 1906 in Clare MI and awarded the U S Navy Cross for heroism when he was killed in action in the Philippines in 1941 shortly after Pearl Harbor. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Clare MI was named for him, as was a Destroyer Escort (DE-253), the U S S Pettit. Although a Navy ship, She was manned by U S Coast Guardsmen during WWII. I want to know more. Can you help me? Does he show up in your tree? Gene Pettit Bellaire TX | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
