I am looking for any info about Amy Chandler and her son, Madison, aka, Matt. Matt had a business arrangement with Robert Matthews concerning a farm they were developing on the Big Muddy. Matt died at Fort Buford June 15, 1879 as the result of a stroke (could have been sun stroke) before the farm was fully developed. He was buried at Ft. Buford. I would like to know if there is a marker in the cemetery or a record of the burial. His mother, Amy, (who was from NC originally) left her home in Illinois to go to ND right after Matt's death. She stayed in Williston alone, and supported by the county until she died April 26, 1902 at the age of 86. I think she was buried in the Methodist Cemetery. This story has haunted me for many years and in particular the way that Matt died - he was only 34 years old. I would like to know more about the Matthews family. Can anybody help? I am Amy's great, great granddaughter. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
