Seeking contact with descendants of Arthur McGRORY (1793-1878) and his wife, Elizabeth Anderson (1802-1880) who emigrated from Pettigo, Fermanagh/Donegal, Ireland to Moreton Bay (Queensland, Australia) in 1852 on the ship “Maria Somes”. Their entire family of 8 surviving children also emigrated, some arriving with their parents, others with their husbands and children. The family settled in the Ipswich area, west of Brisbane, Queensland, and most of their descendants have remained in this state. Arthur was the son of Bernard McGRORY and Catherine McQUEEN, who died in 1851 as a result of the Potato Famine. His wife, Elizabeth, was the daughter of John ANDERSON and Isabella HENDERSON, from Waterfoot in Co. Fermanagh. The 8 surviving children of Arthur and Elizabeth McGRORY were: 1. Mary (1819-1911) who married John McGOLDRICK (1807-1874) in Fermanagh. They emigrated in 1852 to Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia, with their family of 4 children. Four more children were born in Victoria, before the family moved up to Queensland, settling in Dalby, where John operated hotels. 2. Catherine Anne (1825-1919) married John KERRIGAN (1823-1890) in Fermanagh, Ireland. They emigrated in 1852 on the ship “Maria Somes” with their baby daughter, Anne. Nine more children were born in Queensland. 3. Bernard (1829-1881) married Jane MOLONEY in Ipswich, Queensland. They had 12 children in Queensland. 4. Arthur Joseph (1833-1910) married twice to Mary NOONAN and Bridget HEFFERNAN. He had a total of 11 children. 5. Elizabeth (1835-…..) married Michael SULLIVAN or O'SULLIVAN in Ipswich. They had 6 children. 6. Isabella (1838-…...) married John CLEMENTS in Ipswich. They had 12 or 13 children. 7. Ellen (1840-1921) married Alexander McLEAN in Ipswich. They had 11 children. 8. Robert Joseph (1844-1910) married Maria BURKE. They had 11 children. A family history for distribution within the family has been published in 2009.
