I am trying to find the parents of John A.C. Floyd, b. about 1844, d. 1919, buried in the Snider Hill Cemetery in Jackson County, Carbondale, IL area. He married Eliza Boren, b. about 1841, d. 1915, and she is also buried in the same cemetery. They are the parents of Alfred Theodore Floyd, who married Elizabeth "Bessie" Timpner, and Sarah Floyd. John A.C. Floyd served in the Civil War in Co. A 7th IL Infantry. John and Eliza and Alfred are shown in the 1870 IL Census in Williamson County, Range 1, Post Office: Fredonia. The 1850 IL Census for Liberty, Randolph County, IL shows a Nathaniel Floyd, age 40, b. KY,as Head, along with his wife, Nancy, age 37, b. KY, and Esias, age 16, b. KY, Armistead, age 10, John, age 7, Martha, age 3, and Nathan, age 1 month, along with an Elizabeth Bush, age 17. I find Nathaniel and Nancy Floyd again in the 1870 Census, Dunklin, MO, Post Office of Clarkton, as Nathaniel Floyd, 59, Nancy, 55, Martha, 21, and Nathan, 18. In the 1880 Census, Webster, MO, Post Office of Finley, I find Nancy Floyd, widowed, age 65, living with Liverus(hard to read first name) Hendricks, 39, Head, Martha A., 31, wife, William N. 8, Lou R.(hard to read), age 4, Albert E. age 2. The reason I mention Nathaniel and Nancy is because I highly suspect that Nathaniel and Nancy may be John A.C. Floyd's parents for the following reasons: First, I think the John, age 7, in the 1850 Randolph Co, IL census in the household of Nathaniel Floyd and his wife, Nancy, could well be John A.C. Floyd, due to his age, and the fact that Randolph County, and Williamson County in IL are both relatively close to Jackson County in IL,; and Martha A. Hendricks is the right age to be Martha Floyd, age 3, in the Randolph County 1950 Census,; and most of all, due to the fact that Nancy Floyd is buried in the Snider Hill Cemetery where John A.C. is buried, along with Nathaniel Floyd (this would be the Nathan, age 1 month in the Randolph County, IL 1850 Census which also shows a John, age 7, and I suspect they called him Nathan, but his full name was likely Nathaniel, like his father's). Also buried in the Snider Hill Cemetery is Martha (Floyd) Hendricks. Since the only Floyds buried their are John A.C. Floyd, Eliza (Boren) Floyd, Emma Lucretia Floyd (John A.C.'s granddaughter by his son, Alfred Theodore), Clara Eliza Floyd (John A.C.'s granddaughter by his son, Alfred Theodore), Nancy Floyd, Nathanial Floyd, and Martha (Floyd) Hendricks, I have to seriously consider that Nathaniel Floyd, b. about 1810, and Nancy Floyd, b. October 6, 1814, d. Feb. 6, 1895, are John A.C.'s parents, and that Sarah (Floyd) Hendricks is John A.C.'s sister, and that Nathaniel (Nathan in the census), b. July 18, 1851, d. April 3, 1887, is John A.C.'s brother. My guess is that when they died, John A.C., who didn't die until 1919, brought their bodies back from Missouri where they (Nancy and Martha, at least) were living, and had them buried in the 'family plot' area of Snider Hill Cemetery. By the way, there is also a Jane Floyd Younkin, (says Wife of Hardy) buried in Snider Hill Cemetery, but I haven't yet been able to figure out who she is, or if she's related or connected to any of the others mentioned yet. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
