Donna Delores Short (Maiden Name) Donna Short Donna Perotti (Name at the Time of Mary’s Birth) Donna Short Perotti Donna Klein (Current Name) Donna’s DOB – September 4, 1931 527-08-4662 Mary’s / Christina’s DOB – December 22, 1971 Or, December 22, 1970 December 23, 1970 December 24, 1970 December 23, 1971 December 24, 1971 December 22, 1973 December 23, 1973 December 24, 1973 December 22, 1974 December 23, 1974 December 24, 1974 Atlanta, GA Emery Hospital Grady Memorial Hospital (Second Surgery for Cervical Cancer – March 1975.) NOTES 1. Doctor at Emery (Grady?) – He and his wife had already adopted two boys. They wanted a girl. 2. The Adoption Agency – United? (Not United Way) 3. My mother gave birth approximately thirty-five years ago to a baby girl, who she gave up for adoption. 4. She signed a piece of paper for the adoption. 5. She “has” a piece of paper with information – keep after her for a copy of this paper. She doesn’t have it. (072907) 6. Christina; Name on the birth certificate? Wild guess. 7. Judy? (Nurse) Emory University – Operator 404-712-2000 Medical Records – This is the main records department for the entire Emory system (the right place). Asked why Crawford Long Hospital, she thought that was where they were delivering babies at the time and if they didn’t find anything it will pass on to Emory University Hospital, and the other facilities. Peggy Rothschild, Supervisor – She said that the really big group in 1974 was called Child Services Family Counseling Center, now called Families First. They would have records of most adoptions, even if they were private. Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry was established as a result of a state law passed in 1990. The purpose of the registry is to offer birth parents, adopted persons, adoptive parents, and siblings separated through adoption an opportunity to access information and services. http://www.adoptions.dhr.state.ga.us/reunion.htm Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry Families First / Office of Adoptions Suite 323 2 Peachtree Street, N.W. To Whom It May Concern: I am looking for my sister, who was most likely born on December 22, 1971 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. The date of birth is approximate. It might actually be December 23 or 24. The birth mother’s name at the time was Donna Perotti. Her maiden name is Short. Donna’s birth date is September 4, 1931. We have no documentation on the birth itself or subsequent adoption. The Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry found no public record. At this point, we do not know the name of the (private) agency, but believe it may have contained the word “United” in its name. My mother recalls that a doctor at Emery Hospital adopted the baby girl, who she has referred to at times as “Mary” and other times as “Christina.” It’s most likely that neither of these were her official birth name. The hospital where Mary was born could have been Emery or Grady Memorial. The doctor who adopted Mary had already adopted two boys and he and his wife wanted a girl. The birth father’s name was Gene Smith, who worked as a manager at a company called Tenneco, where my mother also worked. Information that I want “Mary” to have: • The circumstances surrounding her adoption. Donna was diagnosed with Stage 3 cervical cancer when she also discovered she was pregnant. Donna thought that she was not going to survive the cancer. • Donna would not have given Mary up for adoption if she thought she was going to survive. (She carried the pregnancy full-term before she underwent treatment for the cancer.) • Donna loves children and has devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. • Donna’s older daughter Cheryl offered to raise Mary. But Cheryl was a single mother who had two young children – a three-year old and a three-month old. Plus, Donna was expecting Cheryl to raise Donna’s other daughter, Angie, who was six years old at the time. • Donna would like to see Mary – if she wants to see Donna. Mary is around 35 years old. If you have any information, I would be most grateful if you would contact me at the information below.
