NY Passenger Lists 1820-1957 1903 Manifest- sailing from Bremen Germany STRUS’ GEORG b. May 06 1881 arrived in 1903 [as Ruthenian from Wroblik Szlacheckie Poland] married Mary Bednarik "BENARICK" Oct 11 & 23rd in Forest City PA church 1906; Pronounces “STROOSH” aka Bednarczyk & brother-Audrejz Strus b.1877 arrived-1912 [boarder in 1920 Census] ; parents-Anna Burko BURKA n. KRAWEC, married Josef STRUS' [b.Abt. 1860] abt 1876; told family he was from Austria and spoke Polish, Russian and other dialect. Goerg STRUS died Sep 18 1953 SOURCES: 1903&1912 Ship Manifests; St John GC Church Baptism Archives Forest City PA now at-Holy Ghost GC Church Jessup PA The "STRUS'" family was from the "Greek Catholic "Wrooblik Kroolewski and also in krossniennskie podkarpackie. The dates on the Pradziad data base are 1830-1835. I saw, from a copy of the "Lemko Surnames found in 1787 Austrian Cadastral Records," 5 famlies are BURKO & 2 families are STRUS. There was a son, Audrzei Strus, who was born in 1878, according to Geo Washington Ship Manifest arrival July 08 1912. STRUS' is from Wroblik Szlacheckie Poland Sanok District. I can't read the July ??[17] 1903 from Hamburg to Port of NY July 30 1903; SS. Graf Waldersee; Georg Strus -Ruthenian going to Jersey City NJ & then PO Box 44 Forest City PA Susquehanna County to Stanislaw ???it WROBLIK SZLACHECKI in Sanok administrative dist., Rymanow gmina/township, Rymanow Roman Catholic Parish, Wroblik Krolewski Greek Catholic parish. WROBLIK KRO’LEWSKI in the Krosno administrative district and gmina, Rymanow Roman Catholic Parish, Wroblik Krowleski Greek. Sources: Lenius / Genealogical Gazetteer of Galicia 1878 Austria Cadastral-There are siblings of Georg STRUS such as Joseph, John, Pauline, Leontyj, Tekla “Tillie,’Walter, & Mikoly. But it is only hearsay. Georg & Mary Bednarczyk Strus had 16 children & 14 survived 1906 thru 1935- Joseph, John, Michael, Andreus, Catherine-“Kay,” Anna, Leo, Paul, Helen, Marian, George, Dorothy, Thomas, & Joyce.[she lives at 508 Susquehanna St Forest City as SPENARD] Unsure of Births of grandparents Joseph& Anna n.Krawec Burka STRUS or whether they came to America; Worship: Roman Catholics & Jews: Rymanow, Greek Catholics: Wroblik Krolewski- Dennis Bednarz d_benarz@prodigy.net Father, Joseph STRUS, is rumored to have been Mayor of Krakov Sounded like “Krawkof-“ is probably KRAKAU (KRAKOW/ Cracow) which was an Administrative dist, gmina, city, & region. The city itself had 10 Roman Catholic parishes plus a Greek Catholic parish & numerous synagogues in 1900. Unless I have a street address, determining the correct one is impossible. However, I think that Gram Mary was merely referring to the region of SE Poland (MALOPOLSKA) when she used the term. Thus, it is impossible to identify which one, of the possible ten thousand villages, where Maternal Great Grandpa Josef STRUS’ was as a "Mayor." SOURCES: Family still alive; Carpathian Rusyn Websites; Tom Peters Somerset NJ, Certified researcher; Ellis Island Website; poland surnames polandbordersurnames@rootsweb.com Lester Kish lester.kish@rcn.com N.B. found August 2007 microfilm LDS records listing STRUCZ which is how the name was pronounced… “STROOSH” STRUSZ http://mapa2.szukacz.pl/ Thank you for any help in locating information here [or overseas].
