I am a birth mother searching for my birth son. He was born on my 19th birthday, 20 June 1971 at Mercy Hospital, Watertown, NY. I was forced to give him up for adoption and had to sign him over to Social Services of Jefferson County while still in the hospital soon after giving birth to him. I named him John Charles Stevens...Stevens is my maiden name. I was never allowed to hold him or even see him in the nursery at the hospital. When I told his birth father of my pregnancy, I never saw him or his family ever again. Obviously, we never married. I have no other information about my son or his adoption. In fact, I don't even know if he knows he was adopted as some adoptive parents choose not to tell. One more thing...an oddity unto itself...for some strange reason, I received in the mail upon returning home from the hospital, my birth son's original birth certificate!
