William SMITH (from London, UK) and Mary BUCKMAN (Sussex, UK), my great grandparents, were married in Christchurch, NZ 30 Jan 1883. He was described as 'Agent'. My grandmother, Gertrude Maud, was born 8 Apr 1884 and her brother Thomas Cyril 13 May 1886 both in Christchurch. On these certificates William is described as 'Commission Agent' and 'Clerk' respectively. Both children were educated in private schools and started university as medical students. Then in 1905 my grandmother and her brother enter the Medical School in Edinburgh, UK. I assume the whole family came to Edinburgh at that time. I am coming to NZ in January and hope to answer some of my questions; What exactly was William doing there? Did he meet Mary Buckman there or did they meet in UK and travel together (or separately) to NZ? Why did they return to UK? Why did they not wait for my grandmother and her brother to complete their degrees? This query seeks only some pointers to how I should go about my search.
