I am hoping someone can assist me in my search for a distant relative, Nathaniel Church. I have gone back as far as possible and hit a brick wall. According to early census records, have found that he was born in Cape May, New Jersey in 1784, but I cannot find out his parents name. He was a seaman who came to Maine and first shows up in Machias, ME in their Intent to Marry Records in 1811 to Eleanor Stuart, but she repudiated the announcement. He then settled at Hay Creek (Jonesport, ME) {Machias Union of 10 Nov 1896} where he was a ship-rigger. He married Dec 1811 {Eastern Argus of 26 Dec 1811} Rebecca Sawyer. From there on things seem to be straight forward. But I am having difficulty in locating info about him from birth 1787 (parents, etc) to 1811. Thank you for any help you can provide.
