Are David Hamler & Wm. H. Hamler of Sussex Co. & Warren Co., NJ BROTHERS? My father's ex-wife--with whom our family is on good terms--told me and another man that we are related. HIS family tree stems back to 2 Ackerman sisters marrying 2 HAMLER brothers, George H. (a twin, b. 1863, Sussex Co., NJ) and Vandervere ("Van") (b. 1855, Sussex Co., NJ). Van was to die and his wife, Emma (Ackerman) Hamler married Harry Babcock of Sussex Co., NJ. The man who I am supposed to be related to had a GGrandmother who was yet another Ackerman sister, Phoebe ("Carry") (Ackerman) (Grover) Bray; her husband was Claude Bray. The parents of George H. and Vandevere Hamler were David (b. 1813, Sussex Co., NJ) and Amy (Emma) (Drake) HAMLER ( b. in Morris Co., NJ). Their children included George's twin, Albert Hamler, b. 1863; Napolean B. Hamler, m. Elizabeth Beatty in Independence twp, Warren Co., NJ; Amanda Hamler, b. 1851, Independence twp., Warren Co., NJ; Martha Hamler, b. 1851, Independence twp., Warren Co., NJ; William McEowen, b. 1852, Green twp., Sussex Co., NJ; Phebe Mary Hamler, b. 1854, Green Twp., Sussex Co., NJ; Marshall Hamler, b. 1861, Green twp, Sussex Co., NJ; Amanda K. Hamler, b. 1862, Green twp, Sussex Co., NJ. Even before my father's ex-wife came forth with her information, I had been persuaded that David Hamler was a likely candidate to be the brother of my GGrandfather WIlliam H. Hamler as my family grew up in Green twp at this time as well. My GGrandfather Wm. H. Hamler was born in 1802, Sussex Co., NJ. He married Noyetta Kindred from Morris Co., NJ in 1808. They married in Sussex Co. in 1830. Their children were: 1.) Gehila Hamler Fullington, b. 1830; lived with her parents and under-one year old son Aaron W. Fullington in Census of 1850 (husband was not in the house). 2.) Issac Hamler, b. 1832, Sussex Co., NJ m. Mary Paugh in 1859. 3.) Mary Ann Hamler, b. 1835, Sussex Co., NJ 4.) Susan R. Hamler, b. 1838, Sussex Co., NJ 5.) Wm. H. Hamler, b. 1839, Sussex Co., m. Annie Townsend; served in Civil War for the North. 6.) Andrew H. Hamler, b. 1843, Sussex Co., NJ; m. Elmira (Almira) Shauger; served for North in Civil War; listed as "deserter" though he fought this in Washington til his dying day. He said that he had been told to come home by a military doctor. 7.) John M. Hamler, b. 1845, Sussex Co., NJ 8.) Elijah ("Lige"), b. 1846, Sussex Co., NJ; served underage as a drummer in Civil War where he probably died. 9.) Cornelius G. Hamler , b. 1850, Sussex Co., NJ (My GRANDFATHER); m1 Hannah Morgan, m. 1872; m2 Augusta Carpenter, m. 1902, Morris or Sussex Co., NJ I have been told that a descendent of David Hamler is my relative; David and my GGrandfather Wm H Hamler (my GGrandfather) lived in Green twp, Sussex Co., NJ at the same time; but I can't find the missing link. I believe that David, b 1813 and Wm H., b. 1802 are brothers. But HOW DO I PROVE THIS??! Or is there any other way I can extablish the relationship? Thank you for any information.
