I am searching for decendants of the Daugherty family, starting in about 1690, when Cornelius Daugherty,(d. 1788),arrived from England to Virginia and South Carolina. He was one of the first white traders to the Cherokee, living among them and marrying a Cherokee woman, name unknown. He had one son named William, and several other children, names unkown. William was the father of Solomon Daugherty,(b.1770) who was one of the first to settle in the New River, Tenn. area. Solomon had 3 sons, Daniel- who married 3 times and fathered 15 children. His first wife's name was "Miss Ashurst"(??),second wife-Mary West and #3 was Sarah J. Rogers. Children of Daniel and Miss Ashurst-2 sons and 1 daughter, names unknown. #4 son was Ell, #5 son was James, # 6 son was John, and # 7 was Jourdan, who was my great great grandfather. My grandmother was Rhoda. They lived in the New River area, I believe.
