Query Text: |
Looking for birthplace of John McGen (McGan, McGann, Machen, Machan, Magan, Megan, Megann, Maghan, Maghen, etc.), b. circa 1819 in Scotland, d. circa 1875 (in Chicago, IL, USA); and Mary Vance (Vanse, Vans, etc.), b. 4 June 1823 in Scotland, d. 10 Dec. 1894 (Chicago, IL, USA). In 1847, they were living in the west of the Town of Groton, Caledonia County, VT, USA, then moved to Chicago circa 1858. Farm in Groton, VT, was adjacent to the farm of David Vance, Sr., leading to suspicion that Mary Vance was a relative of the Vances of Groton, VT, although David's family is believed to have been in America for two generations before the arrival of Mary Vance / John McGen from Scotland before 1845. Would like to hear where the Vances of Groton, VT, originated...Ulster and/or Scotland? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
