I am attempting to find out more information about my great great grandparents George and Sarah Mancer (their parents were George Mancer and Jane nee Barnett born in Berkshire UK))who were passengers of the ill fated Ship Surat which was wrecked on 1st January 1874 in the bay which the Catlins river feeds into. My great grandmother Jane Surat Manser was born in Dunedin on the 4th January 1874 just after the passangers were rescued and taken to Dunedin. They also had two other Children, George and William. They lived in Tapanui and also owned a saw mill near Invercargill New Zealand. I have collated all the information that was published about that ship wreck including the passanger and crew list and will share it with anyone who is interested. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
