Hi, My name is Monica.. I have been involved with genealogy for over 20 years. Most of my ancestors came from Rhode Island and Connecticut (not a surprise if you have seen my many postings). My recent interest has been Alice E. Keach, my Great Grandfather's sister. She married William A. Slater sometime around 1905. This family can be found in the 1910 US Federal Census, Killingly. Close to William A. Slater, Alice and their daughter, Beatrice are Alice's family - William A. Keach, Fannie B (Smith) Keach and their son, Edward (my Great Grandfather). I cannot find Alice E. Slater in the 1920 Census, but did find her in the 1921, 1923 and 1928 Danielson Directories. By the 1930 US Federal Census, Alice E. Slater was found as an "inmate" at the Norwich State Hospital. She was 42 at the time (born in 1888, a leap year). My mother was 42 when she perished in a house fire in 1988 - a leap year. Alice E. Slater did not die in 1930 when she was 42, though, she died in 1951. My subscription to Ancestry.com allowed me access to the Connecticut Death Index, 1949 - 2001, where I found: Alice E Slater Death Date: 1 Aug. 1951 Death Place: Preston, New London, Connecticut Age: 63 Birth Date: XXXYOB (June 1888) Marital Status: Unknown State File# 12459 Residence: Brooklyn, Windham, Connecticut Gender: Female Race: White I went to click on a link to order the actual document and was told that there are no such records in Preston. After googling for "Norwich State Hospital" I figure that whatever records that survived were moved to the Connecticut State Library, in the Archives Division. Anyway, there is only so much that I can do from my computer in New Hampshire. I need to find where Alice E. Keach Slater is buried and the circumstances surrounding her being at the Norwich State Hospital. Blessed Be and thank you kind soul for looking. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
