Looking for a Daniel [Dan] Lyons who married Rebecca White in 1919, probably in England, and came to US and lived in New Orleans. As far as I know Dan was born in 1890 in Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois. I think both of his parents were from Ireland. He was a machinist in the marine industry. Re Military Service: He served as an oiler or machinist or deck engineer on such ships as: the SS Tunica, the SS Easterner, the SS City of Para?, the SS Western Queen. Rebecca and Dan were close friends with Rebecca's sister, Catherine White who married Harry Brown. Dan disappeared from their lives and we never found out what happened to him. This is the last record we have of him: A letter written on USS Cuyama stationery in San Diego, June 22, 1920 "This is to certify that Daniel Lyons joined the USS Saturn of the United States Naval Auxiliary Service as an oiler on the 23 of February 1915 and served constantly on that vessel under my command until May 1, 1916 when he was transferred to the US Naval Hospital for treatment of an eye injury incurred in the line of duty. In June 1916, Lyons was transferred from the Naval Hospital to the USS Nero for discharge. [the date is not shown on my records. During Lyon's service on the USS Saturn his character, ability and seamanship were very good to excellent. He was recommended for re-shipment. [signed by] Isaac B. Smith.
