Seeking information on Hovhannes Bogos Sislian - b. 1 Aug 1872 in Turkey. Immigrated to NY from Le Havre France in Oct. 1897. In/abt. 1904 married Alice/Aroosiag/Arousiag Tashjian. They had 2 sons: Levon(Sislain)and Haig Sislian born in Brockton and Watertown, Mass in 1904/1907. 1910 Census lists 2 Sislian nephews living w/ them in Brockton - Ardashes and Yevant Sislian. Am seeking any information connected to this Sislian branch. Hovhannes Bogos Sislian left his wife and 2 sons @ 1909. He was also known by Ohanes Sislian, Hoohain, John H. Sislian. We have been left w/ 2 versions of his departure: that he returned to fight in Armenia (Turkey) or he left for California and started a New family out there. Sislian was mis-transcribed on Leo/Levon's birth certificate, but correctly on brother Haig's. Both used the last name Sahagian through their highschool years. Alice's sister Shoushan/Suzie & husband Krikor/Korroll Shagian raised/supported them thru much of their childhood/adolescent years. Haig legally changed name to Sahagian. Leo legally americanized name to Sislane abt. 1930 and Sislane has remained unchanged in our family branch. Our branch of Sislanes have primarily resided in USA in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Florida. No direct family connection has been made with the Sislians in Fresno, California. We suspect connections. AKA's: Ohanes Sislian/Hovhannes/Hoorhanes/John H., Hovhannes Bogos Sislian. Alice/Arousiag Tashjian Sislian and Suszie/Shoushan Tashjian Sahagian were children of Elizabeth (Yeghisbet)Gugnisian, married Mugrdich Tashjian. They fled from Constantinople(steerage)leaving Mgrdich Tashjian behind, who was to join them when his passage fare could be earned. He was never heard from again/believed to be killed in the war. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
