Re: RIX (Posted for a friend.) Anyone connected to a Joshua Platt Rix? Joshua & his wife Martha nee Nightingale left England for New Zealand with their children Elizabeth age 9 and their son Robert George born 1847 on the 'AJAX' which left London docks 4 Sep. 1848. The Ajax called at Port Chalmers 4 Jan 1849 & then sailed onto Wellington Settlement of New Zealand Association. Joshua & his family only stayed a short time in Wellington bacause of a Maori uprising & in July 1849 left Wellington in a small cutter. In charge of the cutter was a Capt. Sinclair. Their destination was Little Akaloa, Banks Peninsula where they built a home & settled. Joshua was called 'Holy Joe'. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
