I am looking for any Ascrofts or Harcourts that are related to a Charles Walmer Ascroft b 1895 who Lived in Africa until 1913 when he may have returned back to England and possibly lived with his first wife at Longfield,Wraysbury of the Ankerwycke Estate the home of his Cousin Capt Guy Elliot Harcourt of Ankerwycke,Lord of the Manor of Wraysbury. Charles Walmer Ascroft married Cecil Violet Enid Greville b 1898 at Pietermaritzburg,Africa 1912. Charles may have been the son of Otto Simon Henry Harcourt of the noble family of Harcourt. Otto Simon Henry Harcourt assumed the name Ascroft from his father in law James Ascroft b1849 Philadelphia to enable him to inherit the Gold Mines at Blaaubank,Africa, his son Charles Walmer (Harcourt) Ascroft inherited the Gold mine in 1912/13 at the tender age of 17 and soon after mysteriously dissapeared off the face of the Earth. So what happened to this man,was he killed for the mine or did he abandon his first wife Cecil Violet Enid Greville pre 1920 and settle somewhere else in the UK or Overseas. Is there any Ascrofts in the Barnes area as in about 1986 a report indicated an old gentleman of about 90+ returned to the Ankerwycke estate telling people he was the lost Harcourt son. Have a good look to see if any of this rings a bell there may be Family somewhere. Contact Chris 07818-063543. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
