ANTON GERHARD OLDENBURG SCHWABSTEDT : GERHARD OLDENBURG FRIEDRICHSTADT : MAGARETHE OLDENBURG
Query Text: |
My mother's family (USA) descends from the Gerhard Oldenburg family of Friedrichstadt in Schleswig-Holstein Germany - at the time Danish. The name Gerhard Oldenburg was handed down for generations, the first one in town (marriage register) in 1798 had the "title" of Königliche Visitierer and he and his sons collected customs of the little harbor for two/three generations. The last patriarch had a brewery. The daughter - Anna Oldenburg, married to Johann Friedrich Halberg Schwabstedt - and the relatives always said we're related to a King or Count. Who sent Gerhard Oldenburg to Friedrichstadt (von Gastorff?) around 1798? Which Prince could be this relative king ? Around 1840, my great grandmother's brother "Anton Gerhard Oldenburg" went to Bavaria on business, later he's mentioned secondarily in a Friedrichstadt register as a "Merchant in Milan". When did he go to Milan and what was his business. Is his family still there ?
