my grandmother (now mary phillimore born in 1911) was born mary chappell in mexborough and she told me that my grandfather was of french origin and that his father had been a baronet in france. he was married to hannah and in 1901 census she was 31 and much younger than him. unfortunately i can find no details of my great grandfather alfred chappell in either births or deaths. i would be grateful to anyone who can assist me in finding out the facts of his french connections and if in fact the family chappell did escape the french revolution in the late 1700s. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
