I have found this in many web sites and ancestry logs but have not verified it. I will give a brief history of the de la Montagne, the de Forest and du Cloux families at the end of this book. There is a chance that we are related and for this reason I wanted to give a brief description of these amazing families. According to James Riker’s Revised History of Harlem, I believe the Kortright family came to America in 1663 from Holland. Members of the Kortright family were aboard the "Bridled (Spotted) Cow," 16 April 1663. Jan Bastiaensen seems to be the first listed, two of his sons used the name Kortright while his youngest son used the name Jansen. Some of the grandchildren took the name Low or Louw. Why these names changed and/or evolved is not known. According to “The Decker Genealogy” by Benton Weaver Decker and “Daughters of the American Colonists, Lineage Book”, Rachel Decker married Bastian Kortright. Rachel was the daughter of Hermanus Decker, son of Jan Gerretsen Decker and Grietjen Hendricks Westecamp and Rachel de la Montagne, daughter of William Montagne and Eleanor de Hooges. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
