My mother Birdie Elaine McDowell, Harris, is the only member left alive of her immediate family. Her memory is not too good. She will be 81, May 27, 2008. My Aunt just died in Lake Charles, LA on April 20,2008 @6:30 p.m. So, I am trying to search for their mother and father's history. I do know that gnd pa is Irish. With that, no birth certificate has been found yet in the US. I heard that he was married or just had 2 boys by another woman. Dead End there for now. So, I checked Ellis Island passage: Robert McDowell of Irish decent passaged here in 1899 @ 27 years old. Last Place of Residence: Gosport. Ethnicity:Irish. Unmarried. Ship of Travel: Saint Louis. Port of Departure: Southampton. Manifest Line Number: 0007. That adds up.I found a birthdate of 1872, on a census with grnd.ma Rosa Johnson. Subtract 1872 from 1899 and you get 27. Add about 10 years for the boys to age, and I fig. He & grn.ma married, they had 5 children. Hattie (Chrysel) Myrtle (Young,Smith) Willie,Edward, & Grn.Pa's two Mac & Ellis & my mom Birdie. My mom was born in 1927, subtract 1914 and that's 13 years. But I haven't found a death certificate for Robert McDowell. Nor have I found one for Rosa Lee Johnson. Any help would be great!
