Does anyone have any information about the Benoni White families of Devizes, Wiltshire, England? There seem to have been a number of Benoni Whites. I have a record of Benoni White born about 1781, married Martha Carver in 1806. Children - Martha 1807, Benoni Thomas 1809, John 1810. I have a copy of the will of Benoni White, Builder of Devizes that seems to fit this Benoni. It was written in 1833 and probated in 1839. I can't make out the writing for his wife's name but it could be Martha. It names sons Benoni and John and daughters Martha and Jane. So it fits with another daughter. There is record that Benoni Thomas White married Charlotte Day in 1834. Charlotte must have died before 1841. The census shows Benoni with daughter Mary Jane born 1837 and son Thomas B. born 1839, a female servant and a 60 year old independent woman. The 1851 census shows Benoni T. with a wife, Mary born about 1801 and children Mary Jane and Thomas B. and another daughter Charlotte D. born in 1841. The birth registration index lists a Charlotte Day White registered in Devizes in the April - June period of 1841. My g.g.g grandmother, Elizabeth White, was born around 1788. She married Richard Mullins in 1804. They later started spelling the name as Mullings. One of their sons was Benoni Mullings who also became a builder. So I am certain that Elizabeth was related to the Benoni Whites but I have been unable to find out who her parents were or what the connection was. The 1841 census also has a William White born about 1808, no wife, two sons William 1829 and Benoni J. 1832. Didn't find either William in the 1851 census. Benoni J. was living with his uncle and aunt, Thomas and Mary Carter. If anyone can help me make the connections I would much appreciate it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
